SIMPLE DISCIPLINES THAT DETERMINE WHO WE BECOME

"Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced daily

and failure is nothing more than a small few errors repeated daily"

Our daily actions are based on two concepts.

  1. SIMPLE DISCIPLINES.  We repeat simple disciplines every day of our lives.  [Some things we find easy to do, whilst others we find easy not to do.  These simple disciplines become habit-forming behaviour whether we choose to do them because they are easy to do or because that are easy not to do].

  2. SIMPLE ERRORS IN JUDGEMENT.  When we choose not to do a simple discipline from which we benefit, we then performing a simple error in judgment.  Simple errors in judgement when repeated over a period of time (weeks, months, years), can have severe consequences.

These two concepts can be applied to any aspect of our daily lives.  When it comes to our health, we benefit immensely from performing the simple healthy disciplines that are good for us.  We all like to be healthy and we all know how important our health is to our well-being.  But when you look at the general population what do you see?  In most cases, unhealthy and unhappy people.  Why?

Pleasure or Pain

And the results will always result in the experience of either PLEASURE or PAIN – the pleasure of repeated simple disciplines which we can benefit from or the pain resulting in simple errors in judgement by not doing what is required.

“You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever done to and for yourself.”

Being Healthy is Easy!

Is it easy to be healthy?  Yes.  Is it easy to pick up an apple (or fresh piece of fruit) and eat it?  Yes.

We all know this type of discipline is good for us.  As the old saying goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”]  If this statement is true (which I believe it is) why is it that most people do not perform this simple discipline on a daily basis?  Because it is easy not to.

You can choose to eat a hamburger today because you know it will not kill you today.  But that simple error in judgment repeated over a period of time, compounded, is what may one day “do you in”.  There is no pain associated with the decision or action.

If you chose to eat a hamburger today and then suffered a heart attack your body would associate the pain with the action.  What would you then do? Stop or continue eating hamburgers despite the obvious consequences.  The chances are you would stop eating them immediately; changing your ‘simple disciplines’.

Do you know someone who has a membership to a fitness club or gym?  How many of these people have memberships but do not go to the club or gym?

How easy is it to go to the club or gym? Very easy – you simply walk, drive, etc to the club or gym.

Then, why is it that these people don’t go to the club?  Because it is easy not to.  Reasons can vary – “I don’t feel well”, “Too tired”, “I don’t have enough time today”, “Aunt Betty is visiting I’ll go tomorrow”, etc.

This simple error in judgment does not have immediate consequences – it does not affect them today.  But what are some of the future consequences – health and well-being not maintained, weight loss/fitness program goals not achieved, membership expires and money wasted, other simple disciplines (habit forming behaviour) or simple errors of judgment start to become more important.  More of the simple errors of judgement and more pain.

It is harder to break a long established habit and expect immediate results than to start with simple disciplines.  Remember it can take just as long to break a habit as it took to develop it to its perfection.

A frog will leap from a pan of hot water, but if the water is brought to a slow boil, the frog will remain until its demise.

Will you feel the heat and take action now to get what you really want and while you still have a choice; or will you be like the frog in the pan and continue to get the same results until the power of choice is taken from you?

"The choices we make today are the one’s we have to live with for the rest of our lives.”

Other examples of simple errors of judgment, which do not affect us today, but repeated over a period of time, compounded, can have severe consequences. – smoking, drinking, drug intake, gambling, and poor nutrient to name a few.  There is an abundance of information on these “problems”.  Governments spend millions of dollars each year on advertisement and education, but still people choose to be the 'frog in the pan'.  These people are well informed and continue to repeat simple errors in judgement - because it is easier than repeating simple disciplines that can benefit them.

Simple Errors of Judgement affecting Millions of People

Another simple error of judgment which the majority of consumers are unaware of (or, for somein complete denial) is the daily exposure to toxic carcinogenic ingredients contained in personal care and household products – shampoos, conditioners, hand and body washes, cosmetics, baby products, kitchen and laundry detergents.

This problem affects every person

Although certain government authorities acknowledge the problem  Many products contain ingredients which their chemical components actually cause the opposite to what they are advertised to do, as well being proven to be associated with diseases and cancers.  Daily exposure to toxic chemicals in personal care products is a simple error of judgment, which does not affect you immediately, but repeated over a period of time can have severe consequences.

Most Commonly Used Toxic Chemicals Found in Bathroom Products

For your family’s sake, check if the products you are currently using contain any of the following harmful chemicals:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS).  A harsh detergent found in almost all shampoos and more than a few toothpastes.  Originally used as an industrial degreasant and garage floor cleaner.  When applied to the skin it has the effect of stripping off the oil layer and then irritating and eroding the skin, leaving it rough and pitted.  Studies have show that SLS can be attributed to: eye problems in children and adults; builds up in the heart, liver, lungs and brain and can cause major problems in these areas; skin to flake and separate causing substantial roughness on the skin; corrodes hair follicles and impairs hair growth.  When ethoxylated, forms Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) the ethoxylation process has been known to produce the extremely harmful compound 1,4-dioxane (a component used in Agent Orange used during the Vietnam War).

Of the 2,983 chemicals used in cosmetics and personal care products, 884 were found to be toxic. At least 125 carcinogenic (cancer causing)

Propylene Glycol.  A common ingredient used extensively in industry as a component of brake fluid, paint, vanishes and anti-freeze compounds.  It also appears in many beauty creams, cleansers, makeup and children’s personal care products.  Studies have shown that Propylene Glycol can be attributed to kidney damage and liver abnormalities, damage cell membranes causing rashes, dry skin and contact dermatitis.

Diethamolamine (DEA)  (Also Cocamide DEA, Lauramide DEA).  A colourless liquid or crystalline alcohol used as a solvent, emulsifier, and detergent (wetting agent).  Works as an emollient in skin-softening lotions or as a humectant in other personal care products.  When found in products containing nitrates, it reacts chemically with the nitrates to form potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines.  Other ethonolamines to watch out for are triethamolamine (TEA) and monethanolmine (MEA).

Other ingredients to be aware of:  Fluorides (Sodium Fluoride, Hexafluorosilicic Acid), Alcohol, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Alumin(i)um, Animal Fat (tallow), Bentonite, Butane, Animal Collagen, Formaldehyde, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, PEG, Petrolatum, Propane, Salt, Talc - plus many more.

Of the 2,983 chemicals used in cosmetics and personal care products:

  • 884 were found to be toxic

  • 125 carcinogenic (cancer causing)

30 seconds into the blood stream

It takes only 30 seconds for these harmful ingredients to be absorbed by the skin and enter into the blood stream.  If not released during normal waste elimination and detoxification, these chemicals accumulate and are stored in vital organs; interfering with normal body functions and contributing to a range of health issues.

Some or a combination of these toxic chemicals could be contributing to a number of your specific and general health problems: - Allergies, Contact Dermatitis, Asthma, Eczema, Acne, Premature aging, Mood changes, Depression, Lethargy, CFS, Hair loss, Restlessness, Dandruff and scalp problems, Irritability, Anger, Memory lapses, Learning Difficulties (ADD/ADHD), Psoriasis, Rashes, Headaches, Muscle and joint aches, Digestive upsets, Inability to concentrate.

The Bottom Line

The simple things that seem to not to make a big difference (at that moment in time that you are doing them) are the things that will make a big difference if you repeat them over a period of time.  Stop making simple errors of judgment with your family’s health and well-being.
